Customer Reviews
EXCELLENT Based on 318 reviews Rahul DollTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Onyx carried out a Major service to my BMW 125i, process was quick and easy. No upsells and was transparent about everything. I’m only rating this 4/5 as it would be useful to know the exact oil / parts used in the service and for this to be reflected in the invoice. Hopefully be able to come back and get a Stage 1 map soon - cheers Anil SoniTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Thank you guys for your professional, dedicated and honest opinion. You made my day by fixing my son's car so he could use it for DoE at very short notice. Max and Kay were brilliant and I would definitely recommend this garage as a organised and trustworthy business. Will only use these guys from now on Darren DawesTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I took my jaguar xfr to these guys for a re map . Excellent service. They could not have been more helpful. Very knowledgeable they definitely know what they are doing. If your looking for a re map I would highly recommend you speak to them. HanaTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I was recommended Onyx to get my diamond-cut alloys refurbished. I am located an hour away but the recommendation was important so decided to leave my car with these guys. First impressions, the team were very polite, friendly (Essan, Ben and the guys that actually did the refurb in the intense heat) The prices were competitive. And the quality of work was super. There was slight miscommunication post the sale (which happens) but I was pleased they resolved this to my satisfaction. One idea I would suggest is advising the customer 'before' the work starts that the TPF valves may need replacing so we have the option to decide whether to do it whilst the wheels are off anyway rather than post refurb to avoid scratching the newly done alloys. Otherwise happy with my overall experience. MarkTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Amazing service pavan khanguraTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The best experience ever well organised clean friendly team and the experience was amazing A big up to the whole staff. N EILTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Onyx do the job well and they're nice guys, but the experience is disappointing. We're car guys. We want to understand more about our cars and experience what's going on. At Onyx, you arrive and get ushered to the Waiting Room, which is a small box room with no windows, no toilet and no refreshments. 2 hours later someone comes in and tells you your car is all done. Such an opportunity missed! Places like Center Gravity let you watch, chat to the mechanic, looks at your car from underneath while it's on the ramp....and you can have a coffee and use the loo. The nearest loo to Onyx is the pub half a mile away, which isn't open in the mornings. Oh and when you get your bill it's debit card only so make sure you have cash in your current account! With a few changes, Onyx could make it a great experience and have loads more customers!

Q: What are brake pads?
A: Brake pads are friction materials that press against the brake disc to reduce the rotational speed of your wheels, helping slow down or stop your vehicle.
Q: What does a brake pad replacement involve at Onyx Performance?
A: Our brake pad replacement process includes:
- Inspecting the brake system.
- Identifying whether the front, rear, or both sets of brake pads need replacement.
- Replacing the brake pads, if necessary.
- Re-inspecting the brake system and performing a test drive to ensure safety.
Q: Can I replace brake pads myself?
A: Unless you’re a qualified mechanic with the right tools and expertise, we strongly recommend having a professional handle your brake pad replacement. At Onyx Performance, we provide professional, reliable brake services in Slough.
Q: What are the symptoms of worn brake pads?
A: Signs your brake pads may need replacing include:
- Dashboard brake system warning lights.
- Noise while braking.
- Reduced braking efficiency.
- Pulling to one side when braking.
- Vibrations when braking.
- MOT advisories for brake pad wear.
- Worn brake pads detected during routine servicing.
Q: How long does a brake pad replacement take?
A: Typically, a brake pad replacement takes around one hour. However, the time varies based on your car’s make, model, year, and specific needs. Contact us at Onyx Performance for an accurate estimate.
Q: How often should I replace my brake pads?
A: Brake pad replacements are common maintenance tasks. The frequency depends on your driving style, vehicle type, and the conditions you drive in. City driving, for instance, often requires more frequent replacements due to heavy braking.
Q: How can I extend the life of my brake pads?
A: To prolong your brake pads’ life:
- Drive carefully and anticipate road hazards.
- Brake early and gently whenever possible.
- Avoid frequent, hard, or emergency braking.
Q: How can I tell if my brake pads need replacing?
A: Signs that your brake pads need replacement include:
- Premature wear.
- Issues with braking performance.
For safety, always replace both front pads, both rear pads, or all pads at once to maintain balance.
Q: Can I drive with worn brake pads?
A: Driving with worn brake pads compromises safety and braking performance. If your pads are below the legal or manufacturer’s recommended limit, book an inspection with Onyx Performance immediately.
Q: At what percentage should brake pads be replaced?
A: Brake pads are often replaced even when 50% of their material remains, depending on the manufacturer’s guidance and safety recommendations. If you’re unsure, visit us for a professional assessment.
Q: Can I replace just the front brake pads?
A: Yes, but only if it’s confirmed that only the front pads are worn, and it’s safe to do so. Our technicians will inspect your brakes and provide tailored advice.
Q: What does it cost to fix brakes that are grinding?
A: Grinding brakes often indicate worn or damaged brake discs. At Onyx Performance, a front brake discs and pads replacement typically costs between £130 and £375, while a rear replacement costs £125 to £350. Exact pricing depends on your car and parts.
Q: Do I need to replace the brake discs every time I replace the brake pads?
A: Not necessarily. If your brake discs are undamaged, you may only need to replace the pads. Our team will advise on the best solution for your car.
Q: How do I know which brakes need replacing?
A: If you notice unusual braking behavior or have concerns about your brakes’ condition, book an inspection at Onyx Performance immediately. Driving with faulty brakes is unsafe.
